Workers at cement kiln site lose their jobs for asking for union representation
September/October 2001

According to carpenters union representatives, an organizing campaign at Watkins Engineers and Contractors, the comapny building the Ichetucknee cement kiln, turned nasty in early September when the workers who had petitioned the National Labor Relations Board for union recognition were summarily let go.

Thirty percent of the carpenters signed a petition asking for recognition. The petition was taken to the Tampa office of the National Labor Relations Board in late August

Workers from California are apparently being brought in to perform the labor of the fired union supporters. For more information, call the Carpenters at 376-3121.
