Industrial Workers of the World Organizing in Gainesville
February 2006

The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) is a union for all workers. We are out to fight for our rights, on the job and in the streets. In addition to building a local organization, we are working in support of IWW campaigns and job actions around the country, such as the ongoing New York City Starbucks workers' campaign. We are also out to extend our solidarity to the organizing efforts of other local and regional workers. The Gainesville IWW's recent efforts include a fundraising benefit and solidarity visit to the striking Amalgamated Transit Union workers in Pensacola. Wage slavery in the age of high-tech, low-wage, no-benefits corporate servitude got you down ? Feeling just a little too disposable when the boss drones on about how workers and management are a 'team,' while the media fills up with stories about mass layoffs, strikes, wage and benefit cuts, and work-related deaths as the corporations keep pushing us to run faster in their global race to the bottom?

Come join us! The IWW's newly re-constituted Gainesville Area General Membership Branch meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 8:30pm at Books, Inc. (505 NW 13th Street). We are also running a Labor Film Series, every Weds. night in February at 7pm at the Civic Media Center ( 1021 W. University Ave.)
