The impossible happened in these unimaginable years. For the first time ever, mankind reached and landed on another heavenly body, the moon. The floppy disk, necessary for data transfer between computers, was developed. The first video games were made. And two garage computer builders formed a team and built the Apple.

1969

Man on the Moon

In 1969 many people didn't believe what happened. Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. They posted an American Flag, explored, collected space rocks, and came back home. Many Americans didn't believe that the technology existed to go that far. The Apollo 11 mission was the first of several missions to the moon.

One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. - Buzz Aldrin

1970

Floppy Disks

Floppy disks have been around for over 30 years, and they are still used a lot everyday. CD-R and CD-RW disks haven't been available, but for the last few years and are still somewhat expensive. Floppies on the other hand, have been available for a long time, are pretty cheap, and have just enough space for what you need, unlike CD's that hold 600 times more space than what you need.

Floppy disks work by a floppy drive putting microscopic indentations on a disk, meaning either 1 or 0 whether the indentations are pushed in or not.

1972

Pong and Pac-Man

For several years before 1972, computers had been used for work at many businesses. But leave it up to common ingenuity and someone will find a way to have fun with it. That is how both Pong and Pac-Man were made. In Pong you batted a small ball across a board, like in tennis. In Pac-Man you were chased by ghosts and finished a level by eating all of the little white dots. Both games are extremely simple, but if you look today, both are still published.

1976

Apple

Steve jobs and Steve Wozniak put together a pre-made circuit board in their garage, and called it the "Apple I". A local computer store ordered 25 of the "Apple I" machines and they soon became a national success. 600 were sold. The Apple II was also a huge success. But, later release of the Apple became less popular. Apples had the threshold on educational computers for almost 15 years before they became less likeable. Apple saw many dark days when, Steve Jobs was fired, but those disappeared when Jobs came back and released the iMac.
