From 1901 to 1920 the technology shaped our lives before we were born. Before this century, people had been living like they had been for hundreds of years. Many inventions and innovations let the technology grow to be enormous, like the kite that somehow became an airplane through hundreds of innovations.

1901

Marconi's Radio Transmission

In 1901 Guglielmo Marconi sent the 1st Transatlantic radio signal which became the first real use of radio waves as a source of communication. Radio waves were first used to send telegraphic messages across the Atlantic Ocean and to and from sailing boats.

As you know, the radio is still very much in use today. The ones used today are like kites to planes compared to the older ones. Today's have tuners, volume controls, and graphic equalizers

1903

The Wright Flyer

One of the most historic moments in the history of transportation occurred in 1903.

Both of the Wright Brothers worked in a bicycle shop in 1892. During the time that they were there they did priceless research on propellors, airfoils, and wing surfaces. After more than 10 years of study and testing gliders, Orville Wright got into the Wright Flyer and flew the first air plane for 12 seconds at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

1904

Ford's Assembly Line

What would the world be like if there were not any Assembly Lines? There would be no mass production of any item. Products would be far more expensive. Compared to now, the world could be many years behind if this wonderful technique was not created.

Nearly everything we own today is made on an Assembly Line: from the pages of a National Geographic magazine, to the presses that printed it, to the machines that created the presses. Almost all of the products we buy are made that way. The Assembly Line has a major impact on our lives and we would be living in the past without it.

1914

Goddard Begins Rocket Experiments

This is one of Goddard\'s later rockets, but it is still quite significant. The people who send us into space work at from NASA. Without Robert Goddard though, there would not be a NASA. His research on rocketry, not only sent the first modern rockets up to the clouds, but also pushed mankind into space.

Goddard revolutionized rocketry. He created the liquid-fuel rocket, which was ridiculed at first because only solid-fuel rocket had been used until that time. For many years, his ingenuity was ignored in the U.S. Goddard himself earned over 200 patents, nearly all related to rocketry.
