Since 1986, I've photographed about sixteen coffee-table books
on American colleges and universities. All but one, The College of Charleston,
was published by my good friend Bill Strode at Harmony House Publishers.
The college book projects were typically shot over an entire
school year, allowing me to capture all the seasons, several sports, and
campus activities at different times.
The purpose of the books, generally sponsored and funded by
Alumni Associations or Development Offices, was to create images which would
"tug at the heartstrings" of alumni, who in turn would buy books,
or otherwise support the institution financially.
