As
of 1998 almost 180 youths, ages 12-18, have been identified
as a high priority need of safe housing in Alachua County.
The Preserve aims to provide a safe, homelike setting for
these youths with access to resources needed to develop
the skills necessary for independent living. In addition
to secure housing, the Preserve will provide
- 24-hour
supervision
- A
neutral arena for family reunification
- Health,
educational, and vocational assesments with referrals
to local community agencies.

Preserve's target population includes:
- Youths
who have been denied access to their homes, "lockouts"
- Chronic
Runaways
- Youths
who face custodial abandonment
- Youths
termed unadoptable
- Those
who constantly disrupt foster placements
- Youths
aged 18 without a stable place to live
