Conference on "A Question of Race"
November/December 2003

The Anti-Racism Coalition and WUFT-TV are co-sponsoring a free one-day mini-conference called "A Question of Race." Saturday, November 15th , 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Weimer Hall Atrium at the University of Florida.

The agenda includes video clips from the PBS programs: Legacy; Matters of Race; and Race: The Power of Illusion. as well as speakers Dr. Connie Mulligan, UF Department of Anthropology, who will present research on the genetic make-up of race, and Dr. Joe Feagin, UF Department of Sociology, who will present research on the cultural make up of race in our society. The conference will also include discussion and study circles, small facilitated groups focusing on specific racial topics.

Conference organizers say, "Participants will have an opportunity to listen to presenters and to share social and personal views about the racial environment in America today, its past, and what we can do to improve our future."

The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. To guarantee a seat you can register by calling (352) 373-4484. Funding is made possible by a grant from the producers of Legacy, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), and WUFT-TV.
