Monday, Oct. 14th, Hidden Wars of Desert Storm. Documentary made in 2000 about Iraq and Desert Storm. Free and open to the public.
Tuesday, Oct. 15th, Sexual Violence: One in three American women is sexually assaulted in her lifetime. A skilled facilitator will lead us through a discussion about the ways that sexual violence affects all our lives. Part of Let's Talk About Sex: a discussion series about sex and sexuality co-sponsored by the Civic Media Center and Planned Parenthood. 7:30 p.m. Free and open to the public.
Thursday, Oct. 17th, David Rovics and Sam Jones in Concert: Nationally known folksinger David Rovics and local Sam Jones will play at NE 1st Street Music Hall to benefit the Civic Media Center and the Alachua County Labor Parly. Friday, Oct. 18th, Rod MacDonald and Tammy Murray in Concert: Nationally know folksinger Rod MacDonald and local Tammy Murray of Patchwork will play the NE 1 st Street Music Hall to celebrate the Civic Media Center's 9th Anniversary. Sat., Oct. 19th: Preserving the Constitution after 9-11: Town Meeting. County citizens concerned about civil liberties will have an opportunity to speak out and defend the Bill of Rights. Tuesday, Oct. 22nd, Making Things Perfectly Queer, part of Let's Talk About Sex. Help us celebrate Gainesville Pride Week as we talk about what it means to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and/or transgendered. 7:30 p.m. Possible film after the discussion.
Sat., Oct. 26th, Campus NOW Reception, Carnpus National Organization for Women celebrates 30 years of activism in Gainesville. 8:00p.m.
Tues., Oct. 29th, Sex Workers, part of Let's Talk About Sex. Some people make their living off of sex. Join us for a frank discussion about the role of sex work in our society. 7:30 p.m. Possible film after the discussion.
Tues., Nov 5th, Radical Sex, part of Let's Talk About Sex. Come learn about S/M, polyamory and other sexual practices that most people consider "radical." 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 8th, Resistance to Revolution. 7:00 p.m.

The Civic Media Center is a non-profit reading room of the independent press. We have thousands of books, magazines, videos and audio tapes. We host discussions, lectures, films, and provide meeting and organizing space for activist and community groups. We're open Monday-Saturday 12-7:30 p.m.. Come in and check us out!
