School of Americas protest Nov. 19-21

Another mass rally at the U.S. Army School of the Americas (SOA) is scheduled for Nov. 19-21 at Ft. Benning in Columbus, Georgia. This now-annual event called attention to the human rights abuses of various Latin American graduates of the U.S. Army's training. Congressmember Joe Moakley (D-Mass.) has introduced a bill to close the School, HR 732, and protesters hope to aid passage of the bill. 2,300 people were arrested last time.

There will be a fundraising Halloween party at Saoca Lounge on Sunday, Oct. 31 to help Gainesvillians attend. Politically-themed costumes are encouraged. There will also be a teach in on the SOA Wed. Oct 27 on campus, room & time TBA (381-8958).
