Buy Nothing Day--November 28
November/December 1997

Buy Nothing Day is the name given to the day after Thanksgiving. It's a reaction to the hype and advertising trying to entice us to buy, buy, buy! After stealing many of our sources of happiness and satisfaction, corporations try to sell it to us in a box, frequently on credit with high payments. Buy Nothing day encourages you to resist by buying nothing on the biggest sale day of the year.
Many cities in the U.S. experience zap actions and demonstrations at malls and other scenes of mass consumption. These actions encourage credit card snipping and distribute literature explaining Buy Nothing Day, as well as guerilla theater. All of the above are being contemplated here in Gainesville by a a group of folks who invite your participation. Give a call to 336-0367 to get more info. Next meeting is Monday, Nov. 17th.
