Assistance Proposals

Assistance Requests to the Foundation may be for one-time help, or for continuing help through a regular long-run project.

The Executive Committee or designated officers will evaluate requests for one-time help in accordance with established policy. For eligible projects, fund-raising assistance is provided to the volunteers. In this situation, a volunteer Chairman is normally designated. A Committee may be established if deemed appropriate. Guidelines for Committee Chairmen are also provided. In summary, the Committee Chairman manages, in accordnce with established procedures, fund raising and fund expenditure.

In initiating long-run projects, the Board of Directors or Executive Committee establishes policy for project acceptance. Upon approval, a volunteer committee chairman is designated to coordinate Foundation assistance in fundraising and fund expenditure. General guidelines are in "Foundation Procedure." This procedure is maintained by the Secretary and Financial Secretary. By establishing long-run projects, endowments are built up and regular earnings assist a particular project. This can enable a project to be partially or fully self supporting. For example, a permanent Pioneer Day endowment fund generates periodic income for that project.

Requests for assistance may be made or confirmed in writing to The Lafayette Penny Foundation, Inc., P. O. Box 884, Mayo, Florida 32066-0884. Any Foundation officer would be glad to discuss the merits and possibilities regarding assistance. Vice President John C. Hewett or President Hugh M. Smith are normally available. The telephone for Hugh M. Smith is 904-294-2063 or 352-332-3362. Requests should state clearly the need to be assisted, the extent of assistance requested, and must qualify under IRS gift and charity regulations.
