Doug Burton
1949-1996

Doug Burton died at age 47 on Aug.16,1996,at Columbia Ocala Regional Medical Center two days after suffering a stroke. Doug was Local 1583's president and a friend of many at Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in Palatka, Fl. Doug's service as president cannot be measured by any means. He served our local in a professional way and was very unselfish in representing the members of our local. As an electrician, Doug was a craftsman. He was always careful to carry out his assigned duties and also served as an instructor to the apprentices. Doug served as our representative to the Florida Electrical Workers Association and also was our local's vice president for one term prior to being elected as our president.
Active not only in the IBEW, Doug also served his community in numerous capacities. He was actively involved as a parent at the Anthony Elementary School where his son is enrolled and served as PTO vice president there. He served as a board member of SAC in Anthony, Fl. and was a member of the Marion County Concert Association. He also enjoyed the outdoors, tennis, handball, and traveling.
Doug's contributions to this local were many, and we miss him greatly. His loss is deeply grieved. We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
