Historic preservation, although a methodology, is informed by the community needs of the times but ever attuned to the timeless lessons offered by historically and architecturally significant buildings and community resources. Preservation is accomplished through restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse, where appropriate. HGI identifies both the needs of historic properties and the needs of the community in an effort to serve and harmonize both.
HGI accomplishes its goals primarily through preserving
the physical fabric of significant historic resources; identification of
resources in need of preservation; community education and outreach; and,
advocacy via the judicial system.
