James Webb, Age 7 yrs.
James Edward Webb

James Edward Webb, born August 10, 1992, passed away at the age of 8 years on October 11, 2000.

For eight years, I've been a "Daddy", with my eye habitually cocked for something I might want to buy, pick up or otherwise share with my boy. Now there's no little boy called "Son" for me to share it with. I know that one of the stages of grief is "reinvestment", putting the energies given to the deceased loved one to a new use, but knowing that doesn't do me much good right now.

James developed leukemia at 2-1/2 years and fought a valiant battle for 5-1/2 years, earning respect from doctors, nurses, teachers, other parents and kids and many other people as well.

James will be remembered for his love of people, his warm smiles, his playful spirit and his strong will to live. When he was first diagnosed, he was given a 50/50 chance to live five years. Despite his leukemia mutating to a more dangerous and aggressive form, he continued to fight and lived five and a half years.

He loved science, the outdoors (bugs, snakes, plants; especially sunflowers) and had a lifelong love of trains which made him many friends in the railroading community.

James is survived by his father, Michael Webb of Fruitland Park, Florida; his mother, Cindy Webb of Gainesville, Florida, his paternal grandparents, J.C. and Earline Webb of Gainesville, Florida, his maternal grandmother Alma Ferguson of Tampa, Florida, three uncles, four aunts, six cousins, hundreds of friends, supporters and prayer partners, his dog "Goldie" and his betta fish "Baytie".
