2 nights.

I'm out tonight. At the atlantic.

Last night I went to backstage for the first time in a long while, and
was las I did. Exemption played. I really love this band. Gotta do a
post about them on gbdc soon.

Like I said, I'm at the atlantic. Saw witness the fitness for the first
time in a long while. Glad to see matt (ned) out playing. Primates were
good. Tyler mott is fantastic. The get down are next. All-in all a
pretty good night of music.

I'm planning on driving over to the 'rents tonight to hang out and get a
nice home cooked meal.

I've been the same. Mentally exhausted. Spiritually fulfilled.
Physically ... fit... I guess.

The new year brings new. I'm hoping that it treats me better than 07.
Because 07 can suck a big one. It'll probably go down as my worst year
yet. It's okay. I've gotten used to this. My happiness is internal.

With the kickstand happening I'm hoping to get some new spark going.
Maybe a new bike... maybe a new change to my outlook... I can only hope.

Friends, beer, and pools

Hell of a night. Hung out with PJ, jess, aaron, sara, Adriana, and
James. Drank a case of beer, and went swimming.

It was just one of those great nights hanging out with cool people.

Tonight is towers, creepy youth choir, and lazerhead. Ought to be fun.

Electronic

Found myself at 82 tonight. You know... something to do on a thursday.

I witnessed the most amazing performance ever. "Gay bomb". It was a
single guy playing cards. Each card, about the size of a plane ticket
had a magnetic strip, that came alive through 2 machines that sat in
front of him on the stage.

Sitting in front of the machines, he took these cards (about 30 at a
quick count) and slid them through, crating about 3 seconds of audio,
which he would pull back through, making a screeching "scratch" style
that played over the other.

The pace was fevorish, switching between card and machines with amazing
accuracy.

I have to get the video from andrew, and share it with as many people as
possible.

Ironing is up in a bit. Can't wait to see andrew again creating noise
out of the machines that are percariously placed on an irong board.

Its fest.

So far so sober. Saw the first band at cgs... they still have no AC so

I'll be avoiding that venue.

Now at abby road watching dear and glorious.. I'm still waiting for the

epipheny when I see these guys, but it hasn't happened.

To be honest my goal for the fest is to havean epiphany. To see

something that was completely amazing and unexpected. It might

happen....

I'll talk more later.

There's a penguin in my pocket

Howdy folks. It's Tuesday morning, and that means i have a slight headache and the taste of stale beer on my breath, for last night was band night. Mornings like this I cant but to appreciate the goodness of Penguin Mints the little peppermint candy that is sugar free, sodium free, cholesterol free, fat free, and chalked full of CAFFINE!!!! Oh yes! It is god’s most perfect food. I highly suggest picking up a case of your own.

Before I talk about last nights show at The purple porpoise's "blow hole", allow me to stop for a minute and slip into rant/observation mode

BEGIN RANT.TXT

As i have been probably been in Gainesville long before anyone reading this, i have noticed the decline and rebirth of solid music in the Gainesville scene. The death came when we lost the covered dish (to be more precise, death was in the waiting room when the Hardback closed it's doors.) after that black day something happened... the music stopped. at least interest in music stopped. was this because of the bands? the fans? the venues? or was it something else all together? in my opinion, it was the combination of all of these. Fans are fueled by good music at good venues, bands are fueled by fans, venues are fueled by patrons drinking their fill. so where did the breakdown occur? was there an outside factor that broke up the circle of life?

I'll let you all debate that until you're blue in the face... well go ahead... debate dammit! I'll be waiting here when you're done.
Back? good. I've decided not to worry too much about it because we're in an upswing. for now.

END RANT.TXT

Back to the stuff i was originally talking about... the show. I was impressed with Don't Look Down. Great sound and a tight show. Unsung Zeros (their CD release) were good as well. I was surprised to find myself enjoying Suzie 9 iron. Finishing out the lineup was One pump chump and the busdrivers. One pump went on first while busdrivers went on fourth. i guess the like to break up the ska.

I really enjoy one pump chump not that i'm a fan or their bitch or anything, that's reserverd for the Hot Rod Beef Squad. I just like bouncy punk ska. and i want to throw this out as well... the drummer for OPC is highly underrated. big kisses jessie.

Busdrivers aren't as good as they used to be. I thought it was just a little rough around the edges due to the new band members, but last night was rough with a capital UGH! hey, i'll be the first to say that they have talented people, but i could put any 7 talented people in a room and call it a band in the hopes that was true. Last night SOUNDED like 7 talented individuals playing, just not playing together. Unaware of others in the band, only concentrating on doing what they were doing. They need to get past the point of worrying about playing their parts and start worrying about sounding like a single band again. Min and David are the saving graces of the show. Min with his bar-solo and David jumping around like a madman kept me standing even though i wanted to sit. ps: i still love all of you, just not in that way anymore

As all of you beg for it, here is the gaming portion of the blog post... Warcraft III is sweet. I've been playing for the past couple of days, almost done with the night elves missions. I played on line and now i'm 7 and 0. I'm guessing this is a fluke. I cant help but to think this could be my new favorite game (i'm sorry Counter Strike!). I have also been dabbling in Neverwinter Nights and Grand Theft Auto. BTW- Grand theft auto is more fun with someone watching you. More on that later.

Gainesville's Bounty

Music is like shoes, everyone has a pair. no. Music is love. no. Music is like a warm summer's day. no.

(screw the witty intro.)

I went out this weekend. Saw the Beer Run Boys, DblWide and Shermy D. If you haven’t noticed, my taste in music is as varied as the music scene here in the Ville of Gaines. But mostly it can be summed up this way: I like stuff that 1) entertains, and 2) doesn't suck. So, if there is a band (or an individual) that fits these qualifications, i'll probably have something nice to say about them. but right now, i'm too busy saying something nice about the shows i went to over the weekend.

The Beer Run Boys. in a word... wow. Now i want to preface everything else i say about these guys by saying i have never, and i repeat, /never/ have been a fan of country music. I always lumped all country music into a single pot, and in the pot was a shit-stew. But my eyes have been opened. There is good country music, and there is bad country music. I never really gave it much thought. I mean there's good metal, and bad metal. There’s good rap and bad rap. There good punk ska and bad ska. I guess it never really occurred to me that the same would apply to country music. Oh well, i guess i've been enlightened. where was i? oh yeah...

The Beer Run Boys. in a word... wow. Go out and see these guys, you wont be disappointed.

DblWide has been a personal favorite of mine since the first time I saw them at the Florida Music Harvest. I have to admit i was not "in the know" about this friday night concert, but my good buddy “Drey the Russian Stud” clued me in just in time to make the show. Unfortunately he didn't call anyone else. because i think he might have been the only person to know about the show. the market street pub is a nice sized venue in gainesville. holds about 600 or 15 on nights like friday. unfortunate, but what you gonna do?

Saturday was fun too! Went and saw my favorite 6'4 white rapper in gainesville. Shermy D! I've said it once and I'll say it again, if i had to pick 5 shows that you couldn't miss in gainesville, one would have to be be the drag show at University Club, and another would be Shermy D. If you were counting costume changes, this would be a good match-up. Much like a circus train hittling a mashmellow cream tanker truck, It's something that you just have to witness for yourself. Oh, i almost forgot, Sherms gave a shoutout to "the G-man" (that's me) on stage. I felt all warm inside.

In other news, i just ordered a new piece of hardware. An 80gig ata100 7200RPM Mass-Storage IBM Behemoth from googlegear.com. it was only 88 bucks. yep. that's WITH shipping. i remember when harddrives dropped to a buck a meg (about 8 years ago), and they're a buck a gig. isn't modern technology great.

Speaking of computers, If you haven’t heard, and if you haven't you don’t play video games, WarCraft III is being released Wednesday. Be sure to pre-order your copy. I did. It's on track to overpass Diablo II as the best selling video game of all time. You go blizzard!

this will be cool, and by cool i mean really sweet.

As far as i know there are about a zillion sites on the net (give or take 3) now when i come across something that confuses me i want to share it with as many people as possible.

Do you like ninjas? sure we all do, but this guy has dedicated his site to it. Real Ultimate Power is all about ninjas, and stuff. I want to tall you more but i dont know what to say. Make up your own mind. I only inform, it's your job to flame.

I went out to the busdrivers show last night. I want to first start off by saying that this was dave's (the new singer guy) and Ryan's (i think that was his name, didn't get introduced to him | The new guitarist) second show. with that out of the way, I want to start out by saying that the overall sound of the busdrivers hasn't changed much. they just have a singer AND a guitarist instead of Sterlo. I kinda wish i had seen their first show to know what i was comparing this one to, i also wish i wasn't as drunk as i was so i could actually listen to the music to compare it to the show i never went to. (just forget it.) Anyways.... There were some missed lyrics, dropped solos, and overall "need to have one more practice" sound. Dave was obviously nervous, not so much during the songs but those awkward "in-between" bits. Again, this comes with experience, and David (the bone player) was there to step-up and provide the energy that dave seemed incapable of mustering at points. As for all changes, it takes time to smooth out the bumps. But i may suggest getting the act "smoothed" before the SpitValves cd release.

if you are wondering about Sterlo, he's starting a new (non-Emo) band called (non-Emo-ish-ly) Today Doesn't Count. he will be playing non-Emo rock, with the other non-Emo band members.

just wanted to mention the other bands that played:Fang Shooey (didn't care too much for) Lita Gray (quite good) and The Spitvalves. i want to see the Spitvalves again, but probably never going to get a chance, because i dont leave the city limits (because of the whole "parole" thing).

I read what i wrote and i just want to point out that i am not out on parole, nor have i committed a crime. I'm sure i was going to get a letter from mom or something if i didn't say that.

oh, btw, you CAN contact me. i'm not some freak that will stalk you if you want to say hi. You can find out how on the contact page.

another day, another.... day.. i guess

Ah waking up with the roof of your mouth tasting like your uncle's cigar ashtray (you know the one i'm talking about). I decided to start the week right and get the monday's HRBS (that's hot rod beef squad) pictures up. and i did. they're in the "bands section". you can get there from the link at the top of the page. no in the... *sigh* just click here. I't's like pulling teeth with you people.

what else? hmmmm... Oh there's gonna be a show tonight. a good one infact. One pump Chump will be playing with The Busdrivers (sans Sterlo). I wanted to go to this show but since i went out monday, i dont think Sienna will give me the keys to my shackles 2 days in a row. BUT if you want to call or email her, let me know and I'll pass on the info.

Speaking of the wife, and my cold, and me feeling better after 1 day, and Sienna now sniffling with a cold. oh sweet irony. (for more info see the post below this one)

despite what you have heard i'm not feeling funny today. so let me direct your attention to those cute little buttons on the right side of my page. Those are webcomics. Kinda like the comics you find in the sunday paper, except funny. I STRONGLY urge you to read a couple and enjoy. all of them have archives and can be read from the very first comic. It is a GREAT way to waste an hour (or day) at "work". trust me I'm sure one of them will be to your liking.

'til the morrow my insects!

The Squad should be happy

the show at full circle last Wednesday was anything but calm. With bands like Nox Vomica, Rat in a bucket, and Eat a Bag of Dicks, you know that you're about to be entertained. well you might have been, but i was more confused than anything. I mean not that i HATE hardcore (hardcore (def): yelling... err hollering into a microphone to make undistinguishable tones from a disemboweled grizzly bear, and placing these sound to an cornucopia of dreadful speed thrash that would make any normal person scratch their head and say: "that boy ain't right") but i dont have an ear for it.

did i mention that Hot Rod Beef Squad played as well? I even have pictures on the bands page. and to make up for my laziness i put pictures up for all of their shows. go, enjoy the love that is the hot rod beef squad.

in other news... I think i'm getting sick. The sniffle in my nose and tingle in the back of my throat is a clear indicator... either that or i should lay off the donkey sex. Funny this should happen the day after Sienna (the other half) drags my ass in to give blood. i bet you're saying "boy isn't that nice that you two, to give blood", but let me correct that sentence: "isn't that nice of YOU two, to give blood". Sienna, along with being the most manipulative con artist since me, has two other distinctive traits: 1) She gets this warm fuzzy feeling whenever she can help others and 2)is deathly afraid of blood, veins, needles, nursed, blood technicians, heart pressure cuffs, and thermometers. So, when she noticed that there was a DIRE need for type O- (O neg) blood (the "universal donor blood")she decided to do something about it. (did i mention that I have type O-?) Well, I get poked, and get sick from lack of needed antibodies, and she gets a tee-shirt for dragging me in. I 'm still trying to calculate the "fair-factor" of this deal. Oh yeah! Right after they drove the needle in my arm, they gave me a juice box. }:-/

excuse me as i get a tissue

So long it spilled into monday.

the weekend that is. I went to three shows this weekend (that is if you count monday as a weekend). Friday was the ever popular and AWESOME DblWide. But the true surprise of that show was the Beer Run Boys. They opened for DblWide, and all i can say is that the guitarist is just fanominal. I heard that they practice next to the busdrivers, one of the bands i saw the following night (Saturday- for those keeping score at home)

The Saturday festivities, which were also held at the Side Bar, were in a word, one of the best shows i have seen in a while. (i guess that was more than a word... kiss my ass... it's 3 fucking AM. deal with it.) The lineup for this all-ages-extravaganza were Suzie 9 iron, no cigar, one pump chump, and the ever popular the busdrivers. I just wanted to say that, the show was fantastic, and there were a lot of events: 1) Condom Man (from OPC) broke, no DESTROYED his ankle (To CM: Hope you get better, keep using the ointment, and next time wear a condom. Oh, and i hope your ankle feels better too), 2) This was Sterling's last show in gainesville with The Busdrivers (To Sterling: no matter what other people say about you behind your back, i dont think you suck) 3) Some fat-ass jumped up on stage and dropped his pants (To whomever that was: You do have a nice ass, but save it for a show without teenaged boys and girls present, i saw at least 3 kids have that first "special feeling" staring at your ass)

Monday, i got a chance to see the new "house band" for the purple porpoise: The Hot Rod Beef Squad. Now, i have seen these guys in the past, and they never cease to amaze me with their antics on stage. This time it was wet T-shirts, and Nipples GALORE! I have to admit, i was slightly aroused by the sight of Pete's third (thats right third) nipple, but I managed to keep my composure during the set.

that's it! go to bed already!

oh, btw- have you visited glypher@home yet?

yeah, yeah, yeah, so i'm lazy.... deal with it

Sorry i've been a little preoccupied with nothing to put updates on my page. but i do have a surprise... GAINESVILLEBANDS.COM is running on my home system. I'm gonna be tweaking it for posting through the next few weeks. If enough people see it and like it I may look into getting it hosted (hint hint band members at a Gainesville web hosting company). If you want to be a little voyeur (and i know you do, you cheeky-monkey) you can click on glypher@home and see how it's coming. before you say anything i know that it looks a lot like this page. kiss my ass, i told you i was working on it.

the party went well, we polished off 6 slabs of ribs, a bushel of corn and 3 bags of chips. Did i mention there were 8 of us :) ? I have pictures and they my get put up (like i said I'm a little lazy.)

I will be starting my new job on monday (hoo-ray). I'm sick and tired (not in that order) of sitting around doing nothing. I'll be happy to get in front of some code again and start doing something useful. The only problem is that i noticed my title... web designer. WTF is that? DESIGNER? i don't design i develop. Leave the designing to Martha Stewart and Christopher Lowell. Bah! whatever... I know that i'll be doing more than that, and that's what's important.

If you are wondering what the title of this blog is... it's the name of The Know How's Newest Album. I purchased it and listened and loved. If there are any fans of ska music and haven’t heard of these guys, you need to pick yourself up a copy. I put up some pictures in the bands section of the pictures page.

I have an incredible ear ache right now... and i think it's moving into my brain... I'm going to lie down. Talk to you slugs later.

Away from home :' - (

yep, I'm down in south florida for a business trip this week. I cant strees it enough how much i hate it down here. It's hot, the traffic is horrendous, and there is concrete everywhere. I'll be back in Gainesville friday.

The networking in my house is going slow, mostly because i'm not there :P I got the tele-o-phone finally hooked up (after first splicing into the alarm system). and I'm getting ideas on how i want to run the power to that closet. Mentioning that reminds me of other silly homeowner stuff i need to do: get an area rug for the living room, mow the yard, and get a lawn gnome.

so, what is my buddy JJ doing now-a-days? well, first of all he'll be jumping the pond next week for a visit! Haven’t seen him in a few months, so this ought to be fun.
