Strike out

I's been a while since i had an honest to goodness rant about something. Feel privileged that you decided to show up.

---Begin Rant--

Tomorrow is the big day. Not just "porn Friday" but something even more entertaining. Aug 30th is the deadline for the Major League Baseball salary negotiations. And i cant fucking wait!

Hey not that i don't like baseball... Okay you got me. i hate the game. Baseball (aka "the great American pastime") is PAST it's TIME. The modern day game is a bad product... albeit packaged well. First, the only way that this three hour bore-fest can be palatable is watching the highlights on sports center, and that's only for a few minutes at a time. Second, There is all this "fake drama" built up by the sports/news shows all based upon numbers that are in themselves flawed. ERA's, Errors, RBI's mean a whole hell of a lot of nothing in the modern version of the game. But the good packaging of a bad product is not the reason for this rant. Lets talk about killing this lame beast.

I haven't enjoyed, i mean really enjoyed a baseball game since the last strike in '94. Back then, I decided to never watch a game again... and i haven't. I haven't watched a full game of baseball in over 7 years. why? Because after the strike was over and the players came back, i realized that the game sucks. It used to be about batting and defense and now it's all about the pitching and homers. Today teams spend all their money (and there's a LOT of it) on pitchers and power hitters. You might as well just pit 2 teams up against each other and have a home run derby. Until the game finds ways to make the product better I will continue to feel the same way.

Back in '94 the strike almost killed the game. And i hope to god this time they finished the job. And what perfect timing! This weekend signals the start of football season. Do you REALLY think that people are gonna give a flying rat's ass about a bunch of whiney babies making over a million dollars a year when there's a REAL sport on TV? Hell no!

Baseball needs to take a long hard look at itself, and realize that "the American Pastime" moniker will only continue to draw people for so long. Soon, fans will realize that that they're not "in love with the game" but in "love with the nostalgia of what the game used to be."

---End of Rant---
