history of time

Alright there was this big-bang thing. and then some matter started sticking together. amino acids... cells... blah, blah, blah, gainesville music scene. okay now that you're up to speed, Here's the rundown for the show last night at the sidebar.

Now, there's some things that are dick. and then there are things that are REALLY dick. Cops storming in and checking ID's was dick. but the fact that the show was promoted as an all-ages event, and then after people were dropped off (all-ages = under 18 => under 16 = no car = mom drives) they change it to 18 and up only... that was REALLY dick. I never really got the whole story on this one, but i'm only presenting the facts as I saw them. If i'm mis-interpreting what went on last night, I'll gladly post the opposing view (in very small text taped to the inside of my garbage can). In protest i decided not to consume my regular quantities of alchy-hall, and only got 3 glasses as opposed to 3 pitchers.

enough bitching about the policies at the sidebar... On to the music! Last night was the much anticipated (at least by me) debut (that's pronounced 'dA-"byü , not dE-butt) of Today Doesn't Count. and what a performance it was.

if anyone out there knows me, and if you're reading this you probably do, I try to tell it like it is. This sometimes has its negative effects:

person:do you like my new hair cut?

glypher:yeah, it looks cool... but where are the shoes and nose?

person:shoes and nose?

glypher:ya know to finish the costume... you're trying to be a clown, right?

Well that type of honesty is what i expect from people in return (if i got a booger on my cheek, you better damn well tell me). There we no boogers on TDC. I saw the "sneak preview show" a few weeks ago at the porpoise, and it was pretty good. But last night they sounded tight and "musical". That's a rarity when it comes to a hard-core sound like theirs. I've been to many shows where the audience just stares at the first band. This was not one of them. By the start of the second song everyone in the place was into it. and they stayed into it until the last song (which kicks some serious ass). Congratulations to those who snagged the FREE CD's I was too slow thinking that the supply would hold out, and was burned.

Hollywood Beach Brian was quite amusing. a guy, a guitar, and a sense of wit. That style of music reminds me of the hide out and listening to Leroy and Edward. I want to go back to Chi-Town.

Didn't see the next band (bum ruckus), was outside watching cops bust people.

One Pump Chump... the sum-up: they played, they were good, Peter crowd surfing, Kyle cheating death on the railing, Kris blowing a bone like a mo-fo, Sarah talking about rubbing chilled coconut oil on her sunburn, Mat being an emcee, Jessie was in the back beating on stuff, and I saw Ben move (i swear he did).

pictures of the event last night and the warped tour will hopefully be up by tomorrow.

Whelp, that's about it. I will be going back to work now, or surfing the internet, or something that will hold my attention until lunch.
