Friday therefore joy.
Last night i made my way down to the Shamrock a local watering hole (read: bar) to see a band i keep missing (def 1&2). I've been tying all my time up with the punk-ska scene as of late i haven't really been able to get out and see some of my other favorites. Not that this is a bad thing... Over the last few months I've enjoyed many concerts with One Pump Chump and The Busdrivers, and going to warped tour. But i'm glad that i can finally take a step back and see something that is both entertaining and eclectic (and not metaly or punkey). Last night filled my desires.
If you have ever talked to me about music you'll quickly learn that my tastes are like shooting an apple with a shotgun (probably gonna hit everything and whatever is left doesn't really matter). last night was a round robin of entertainment. First of all I ended up seeing (amazingly enough for the 4th time without trying) Unsafe Sax. A band that reminds you of old school jazzclubs. Smooth and smart, and not afraid to read music. not that anyone in the place could really appreciate a jazz band in the middle of an irish pub filled with eight people. whatever. they were still good.
Next up where downpsychol. not really my thing. But i'm sure someone likes them, they got second place at Eddie C's battle of the bands. (dont quote me on this, i only overheard it).
And now the band that is the real point of this post. Daughters of the Revolution. First of all there are no chicks in the band, they aren't dressed as minute men, and have only three members. Stick with me on this, it gets better. Now Sterling asked me what these guys sound like. Ummm... yeah... well. Lets just say that their love of different genres of music may be slightly broader then mine. Now, i have seen these guys play before. I knew what to expect. From what i could tell, most others in the crowd were clueless. DotR play only what i can describe as an eclectic menagerie of damn near everything, bound together by a guitarist that is one of the most talented people in gainesville. If you get a chance to see these guys (like tonight at Full Circle, or tomorrow at SideBar) do it. I am hopefully gonna be out at the Full Circle show. That is, if i'm awake.
