An Appeal to UF Alumni & Citizens

Welcome back to the UF campus. As always you will probably notice the many new things that have appeared since you last visited Gainesville and how much the University has changed. You may also notice how some things stay the same. For decades, Student Government at the University of Florida has been run by a political machine and has faced criticisms of being unrepresentative and unresponsive. The record of SG has varied over those years--at times performing better than others. We believe, however, that things have reached an all time low and that it is time for a change. Student Government at UF needs real reform. It is in all of our interests as many of the articles in this paper will show. So we call on you--the alumni and interested citizens--to lend a hand.

If ever there was a time when UF needed a strong Student Government it is now. The University of Florida, the State University System and education in general are under attack. Government in general seems to be failing the American people. The current and future Student Body needs your help.

With it, we can seek to become active and productive citizens in the state and nation--joining with you to resolve the many problems we face.

Please call and express your concerns to Dr. Lombardi. Let him know that you care and that you have been informed of the many problems facing the Student Body regarding corruption in Student Government.

And contact us--we'd really like to hear from you. Tell us your thoughts, comments, and suggestions. Feel free to offer submissions to our next issue of the Independent Voice. We would really like to hear from former students who were involved in Student Government or attempting to reform Student Government in the past. You can contact us through the address or e-mail posted on page two.

From the members of the Independent Student Coalition--we hope you enjoy your visit back to Gainesville and look forward to hearing from you in the future.
