Union County STW News By Geraldine Griffis

School -To-Work Project Union County High School is off and running with our "Turf and Landscape Management STW project. Our project began with setting up a committee of teachers, students, administrators, a business partner and our occupational specialist. A brainstorming session was held and excitement was high. Each curriculum area will involve students in the planning, preparing and initiating each phase and task of the project. The Technology Education classes planned and developed a blueprint for landscaping our building grounds. They also have developed a "Web" page on the Intemet. The Horticulture classes will use the blueprint in the placement of plants. Specific Math classes will also use the blueprint to calculate amounts of needed supplies and materials. Science classes will be testing the soil to decide what kind of nutrients will be needed for the plants to use. Our English and Social Studies classes will put together a photo joumal of our activities. The turf and landscape project will be ongoing. It will offer students an opportunity to see how academics fit into the world of work.
