Commission Wheat's Statement

Read into the record by Commissioner Penny Wheat on March 25, 2003

"This discussion is about values.
Does this Commission majority value irreplaceable natural resources, or does this Commission majority place a higher value on building roads for developers?
All data show that the 3-lane road, as already designed, will work in this area, along with the network of other 2-lane roads for the student village. If the developer wants a more expensive 4-lane road to serve his development, he should be required to build and pay for, within his development, the 4-lane roads to serve himself and they should be connected to Archer Road for access to I-75.
I appreciate the right to free speech which still exists today in our country, because we have the right to express a different opinion, even if it is different than the wealthy and powerful who seek the public's resources for their private use."
