These are shots I took today (10-14-02 )of our Hogtown Creek at 34th St. and University Ave. of the debris that washes into our urban creeks every time it rains, from roads, parking lots, and any area flowing into a storm sewer. This is one of our many creeks that flow directly into the aquifer by way of a sinkhole. This is not right by any standards. This runoff should rightfully be in a retention pond with an overflow leading to the creek. In this way the pollution you cannot see will settle out. The water entering the creek system through the retention pond overflow will be much cleaner. Why must all our urban creeks lead to a sinkhole? Are we too cheap to stop this act of total disregard?
This barrier you see is a construction tool to stop sediment from washing down the creek while the ground is lacking plants to stop the sediment flow caused by erosion and would not normally be there to stop the floating debris(who know what flows under the surface.
