Withlacoochee River North, Florida (May 1992)

I head north to kayak this north Florida river, which, at this time of year, features several blooming native azaleas along the banks. The kayaking is fun, and is the first time I ever kayak for more than 10 minutes. (the trip is 15 miles and four hours on this particular day). The total length of the run is 32 miles, and begins near the Georgia border. It ends at the confluence of the Suwannee River in the Suwannee River State Park. The River passes swamplands, hardwood forests and pasture lands. Limestone outcrops and small shoals can be seen along the banks.
