Silver Lake/Apalachicola National Forest, Florida (1987)

When I visit Tallahassee and lack lodging, I like to camp at Silver Lake, which is located in the 500,000+ acre Apalachicola National Forest south and west of the city. The campground is pleasant, and the picturesque, spring-fed lake makes swimming in the lake an enjoyable summer treat. 60 miles of hiking trails are within the forest.

Located within the Apalachicola National Forest. At 558,735 acres, it is the largest of the three national forests in Florida.
