Cape San Blas/St. George Island, Florida (1984)

Located 80 miles southwest of Tallahassee, a causeway and bridge is required to get to St. George Island. Take US 98 six miles, heading east from Apalachicola.

The park was completed and opened to the public in 1980. The park is on the eastern end of the island, which is a barrier island between Apalachicola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Picnic Pavilions and great bathhouses overlook the Gulf beaches.

The long beach is quite large, and filled with interesting items that have washed up from the sea. The waves can be quite fun to surf, and I both body-surf and use my little one-man parachute raft to ride the waves. That's me with my raft out on the St. George surf.
