Valentine's Weekend in Mount Dora (1999)

I spend a lovely 3-day weekend with my friend Maureen in the quaint little town of Mount Dora, Florida. The town is just north of Orlando. It is very romantic and walkable. We stay at a luxurious bed and breakfast (the Magnolia Inn). Our bedroom is gorgeous and plush, and the bed is enormous. We use the candle-lit Jacuzzi inside a gazebo on two different nights. We have it all to ourselves. The fridge inside the Jacuzzi is stocked with beer and wine. A stereo is next to the Jacuzzi. Each morning, we are served a freshly cooked breakfast fit for a king and queen. The place is an easy 2-block walk to the huge annual arts festival we are there for (see photo to left).

Mount Dora also has a tourist train, and several lakes that you can boat. On our last day, we bicycle 1.5 hours on rural roads running through orange groves to get to Rock Springs (photo below), where we enjoy a very peaceful, beautiful 4-hour canoe paddle. The town has a festival (arts, bicycle, antiques, cars, sailboats, music) nearly every weekend. It is known as the "Town of Festivals." I would enjoy retiring in this town.
