Discography and Band History
Presented for your reading enjoyment and edification, the complete (as far
as I know) Dark Angel discography, with band history.
Any corrections or additions are welcome
, but be sure to check the dicography closely before submitting them.
"Demo" - 1983 - First band demo
I've received e-mail from several sources indicating there was a demo tape
with six tracks done by Dark Angel in 1983. However, I have never seen
or heard it and haven't been able to get any details, pictures or samples.
:(
"Metal Massacre VI" - Metal Blade
, 1985 - Compilation, various artists.
While this compilation released in 1985, the Dark Angel track was
likely recorded earlier. Metal Blade
Records
has done numerous compilations that have hailed the first track release
of bands that went on to become megastars, including
Metallica
and Slayer
.

This was a compilation of previously-recorded demo material, some of which
was released on other demo collections. After this album was recorded, Jack
Schwartz left Dark Angel and was replaced by Gene Hoglan. Gene's photo
appears on the back of the album because of this. In 1997 the French recording
label Axe Killer
re-released the album in a 2,000 number limited edition.

This is not an album release but a concert video for a performance
at Hammersmith Odeon on April 10th, 1989 that featured the bands DAM, Candlemass,
and Dark Angel. This was made during their "Live Scars" tour (the photos
on the cover of the "LIVE Scars" album come from this concert video, apparently).
This concert performance was in the UK so I don't know how available this
video maybe.

Screams Of Tortured Souls
A couple of years ago some people told me that the WWF wrestling team "DeGeneration
X" had a theme song
that was composed and performed by a reformed Dark Angel. However,
in recent email conversations with Eric Meyer I confirmed that Dark Angel
did not do that song. It may be another band calling themselves
Dark Angel did it, though.
The Demise
Dark Angel broke up after "Time Does Not Heal", sadly. Rob Rinehart
left in 1992, followed shortly by Gene Hoglan. An interview with Gene Hoglan
while he was with
Death
can be found in Vibrations Of
Doom #9
. He talks a little bit about the break-up of Dark Angel:
"In 1992, Ron Rineheart quit the band, he did the last two records
Dark Angel put out. It was very disappointing [...] and it got to the point
where I said I just don't want to start all over again. So, I told the remaining
members I wanted out as well, so I grabbed Chris, my guitar player, with
me, and that left Dark Angel with two members. [...]"
