VILLAGE EBRIEF, BY TANYA OTT TANYA_OTT@YAHOO.COM (excerpts)

1) New Rules for Soccer Parents: 1) No Yelling. 2) No Hitting Ref
A heightening climate of poor spectator sportsmanship in high school and youth sports has led to a
wellspring of measures aimed at curbing misconduct http://www.nytimes.com/2001/05/06/sports/06SPOR.html

2) Increasingly, Schools Move to Restrict Dodgeball
What was once shrugged off as a harmless game is now considered aggressive, unwholesome and a cause of injuries by some school administrators. So in many school districts, officials have discouraged, limited or even banned the game. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/05/06/national/06DODG.html

3) Tufts University Child and Family WebGuide
This metasite offers categorized links to sites that contain research-based information about child
development. Sites are grouped in six categories - Family, Education, Health, Typical Development, Childcare, and Activities - and then further divided by topic. Each site is briefly described and rated on
a five-star system. Users may also search by keyword or by selecting from a list of supplied terms. http://www.cfw.tufts.edu

4) Understanding What Poverty Means (This is Really Good!)
With $17,184 defined as the poverty level for an American family of four, it doesn't cover all the
necessary expenses for rent, transportation, health care, food, and childcare. The US Catholic Conference has assembled a 2-minute tour of what a poverty level income will afford. http://www.nccbuscc.org/cchd/povertyusa/tour2.htm
