Pegeen Hanrahan was born in Gainesville. She attended Littlewood, Westwood, Buchholz, and the University of Florida. A College Park resident, Pegeen knows our neighborhoods: their concerns and their strengths.
Pegeen earned a Master of Engineering degree in Water Resources Management, and holds a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and a B.A. in Sociology. She is an engineer with the UF Center for Construction and Environment. Her technical training provides a solid background for finding creative solutions.
In her first term, Commissioner Hanrahan gained the respect of city residents. She has successful efforts to obtain over $1.3 million for remediation of the of the Sweetwater Branch watershed and the Depot Avenue brownfield site. She encouraged changes in RTS that have increased bus ridership by nearly 200%.
Pegeen was instrumental in retaining Nordstrom's commitment to Gainesville, and has worked for downtown and eastside development. Pegeen champions traffic calming and codes enforcement measures to strengthen our neighborhoods. Pegeen promotes teamwork for problem-solving among diverse interests.
