Pack 454 Newsletter:

October 2006

October Newsletter

Please remember our pack's website address, http://www.afn.org/~pack454/

It has been brought to the committees attention that pack leaders would like to conduct pack business prior to the pack meeting.  We are now asking that families arrive at 6:45 to conduct pack business (campout sign ups and payments, popcorn turn in, T-shirt pick up, etc.).  The meeting will start promptly at 7 PM. We will close the doors during the flag ceremony.  If you arrive after 7 PM, please wait until the flag ceremony is complete to come in.

Pack Meeting-  Our October pack meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 17, in the Talbot Cafeteria. We will be having a demonstration hosted Snake Busters.

Prior to the meeting between 6:45 and 7 PM, in the back of the Cafeteria you will be able to turn in your popcorn forms and pay for your camping trip to the Central Florida Zoo.

Pack Carnival- The Pack 454 Fall Carnival will be held on Saturday, October 28, from 11am-1pm.  We will be set up on the Talbot Basketball courts to enjoy  a fun  filled time with games, prizes, and activities. We will have carnival style games (provided by each den) which will be free. In addition to these activities we will be having a cake walk. Tickets will be available for $1 each. We will also be continuing a long standing Pack 454 tradition, the Halloween Cake Exchange. This annual fundraiser allows for the scout and his parents to prepare a homemade cake to be exchanged at the end of the carnival. The decorated cake and a five dollar donation will assure that you will be taking a sweet treat home with you. Since we will be judging the cakes in categories, (most original, scariest, most festive, and best scout theme) no store bought cakes are to be entered in the cake exchange.  All cakes must be entered by 12PM. For those who do not wish to participate in the cake exchange, your donation of a cake for the cake walk would be appreciated. Everyone who brings a cake will receive a free ticket for the cake walk. We encourage you to wear your costumes as there will be awards given to boys, siblings and families. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available for a nominal cost. We hope to see you there! (Please see your den leader in regard to prizes for you den's booth.)

Popcorn- Popcorn is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and helps to pay for numerous items and events for the pack throughout the year. The pack is challenging each boy to sell $50 worth of popcorn!  This will assure that you receive the 2006 popcorn sales pin. Last year we sold $8,092 in popcorn!  Let's see what we can do this year!  If you are in need of an order form you can print one from this link- http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/DocDownload.asp?orgkey=1312&id=14654

All popcorn forms and monies must be turned in at the October 17 pack meeting. Please be sure to fill out your form completely!  This includes totaling your items sold and monies.  Also, don't forget to choose your prize. A popcorn prize form is attaches to this email, if your sales are over $1,250 please contact Jen Davis or Tabitha Vought for additional prize choices.

Popcorn will be ready for pickup by the den leaders or den popcorn kernels in mid November. Patches and prizes usually come in mid to late December.

Thank you to all of the dens that participated in the Popcorn Show and Sell event at Publix!  You all did a great job!

Central Florida Zoo Campout/Camp In Registration-  We will complete the Registration for this exciting event at the October Pack Meeting.  All families that signed up and are still interested in attending will need to make their payment.  Remember it is $12 per person for outside camping and $25 per person for inside camping.  We will also need all attendees to fill out a registration/release form.

T-shirts- Our Pack T-shirts have come in and they look great.  You can pick up your son's T-shirt from his den leader.  Thank you to Jen Davis for doing such a wonderful job!
