PACK 454 NEWSLETTER -- FEBRUARY
First, let me thank all of the hard
working scouts and akelas who rolled
up their sleeves, put on their
gardening gloves, and cleaned up the
grounds at Talbot and replanted the
USA garden or pulled out those
invasive air potatoes. Luckily the
flowers we planted made it through all
the freezing nights and the garden
looks great. Also, our Pinewood Derby
was a fantastic success, thanks to
Chris Vought and his amazing pit crew.
It was so much fun to see all the
incredible cars the scouts, siblings
and parents made for the race. We have
such a creative group of scouts! If
you didn't make it to Camp Buc Tuocs
this weekend, you missed a wonderful
campout. Cold, but wonderful. Thanks
to our committee chair Tabitha Vought
for donating firewood and coordinating
everything for our pack, to Gary
Gillespie for transporting all the
pack's stuff, and to all those who
helped with dinner Saturday night.
BLUE & GOLD BANQUET --
FEB 10 -- 5:30 pm -- TRINITY UMC --
4000 NW 53 AVE
Our February pack meeting will be our
annual Blue & Gold Banquet, where we
honor our Webelos 2 Scouts as they
complete their cub scout journey. It
is also the day we celebrate the
birthday of scouting. Please note that
Feb. 10 is a Saturday, not a Tuesday.
Den Leaders: please let me know this
week how many seats your den will need
so I can designate tables for your
group. The Blue & Gold Banquet is a
covered dish affair, where each family
brings a hearty main dish that serves
8-10 people. The pack will provide a
large cake and pizza for the children,
since generally speaking that is their
favorite food. The committee decided
to go with an American Regional
Cuisine theme for the banquet, which
means you can show off your culinary
talents (or those of a local
restaurant) for all to enjoy. You may
choose from among the following
American Regional Cuisines. Please
bring a 3 x 5 card indicating the name
of your dish and its category, and
please indicate whether it contains
meat.
San Antonio Tex Mex
New York's Little Italy
Tropical Miami
Down Home Southern
San Francisco's Chinatown
Louisiana Cajun & Creole
Heartland Homestyle
Ellis Island Imports
New England / Cape Cod Cuisine
South Carolina Low County
Pacific Rim / Hawaiian Hula

FORT CLINCH CAMPOUT --
MARCH 2-4
Details for the campout will be
forthcoming from Tabitha Vought, our
camping chair. Even if you are not
camping overnight with the pack, you
may want to join us for the day on
Saturday for a tour of the fort. With
so many reenactors at the fort that
weekend, it is a wonderful time to go
and learn about our area's history. If
you would like to join us for the day,
please contact Tabitha at
<CubScoutPack454@aol.com>.
SCOUTING FOR FOOD --
MARCH 10
This will be our next service project.
Your dens will first distribute
collection bags and a letter about the
program within their assigned
neighborhoods, then dens will collect
all the non-perishable food that their
neighborhood donated on March 10.
CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP
Mark your calendar now for the
fun-packed Cub Scout Day Camp on June
4-8, 2007. We will need many
volunteers to help out with this event
as well as scouts to have fun and
learn cool things.
COMMITTEE MEETING --
FEB 25 at 5:30 pm -- Room E225 at
Trinity UMC
Our next Pack 454 Committee Planning
Meeting is Feb 25 at 5:30 pm in Room
E225 at Trinity UMC. This is where we
plan our service projects, campouts,
and other events, so join us and share
your ideas and talents! The agenda at
this meeting will include details for
the Fort Clinch Campout and the
Scouting for Food service project as
well as planning for the March and
April pack meetings and our pack
graduation in May, our annual Pack 454
Breakfast fundraiser at Gator's
Dockside, as well as Scout Day Camp
this summer.
