Cub Scout Pack 454
Description of Events
2006-2007

For the dates these events see the  Calendar

Possum Creek Campout- The Annual Possum Creek Campout, held in September, is truly an urban campout which takes place in the big field behind the Hunter's Crossing Chevron Station. It is a great way to ease into camping for those that have never camped before, but also lots of fun for those who have. Campers may arrive at 5 PM to setup camp and can register when they get there. The cost per family member is $5 and covers the campout activities and breakfast on Saturday morning, and a patch.  Scouts are paid for by the pack.  On Friday night, the pack will join the rest of the district for a bonfire program featuring skits, songs, and lots of fun! On Saturday morning, there will be a variety of activities to participate in and then we pack up and head home by 11 AM.

Pack Carnival- The Pack 454 Fall Carnival is held in October on the Talbot Elementary Basketball Courts. With the help of each den, the morning is filled with games, prizes and fun.  Along with the carnival style games we also continue a long standing Pack 454 tradition, the Halloween cake exchange. This annual fundraiser allows for the scout and his parents to prepare a homemade cake to be exchanged at the end of the carnival. Cakes are judged in categories, (most original, scariest, and most festive). You are encouraged to wear your costumes as there will be awards given to boys, siblings and families.

Campout at the Central Florida Zoo- This exciting trip to the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford includes a one night stay in the zoo.  An evening full of activities is planned on Saturday night, including a twilight tour of the zoo. There are two programs to choose from. Camping out under the stars in the Wild Nights at the Zoo program or sleeping in the zoo’s discovery center in the Snooze at the Zoo program.  Pre-registration is required for this trip by October 17, 2006.  The cost is $12-$25 per person depending on the program chosen.  Costs include your camping fees, activities and breakfast.

Christmas Caroling- As one of our many service projects we go caroling at Sterling House Retirement Home, in December.  Sterling house is located behind the Hunter’s Crossing Publix.

Pinewood Derby Workshop- The workshop is put on by our PWD Chair and held at one of our Den Leaders Businesses.  It is a half day spent custom designing your car for the race. Many tools are available for use to design the winning car.

Pinewood Derby Pre-Weigh In- This is not a meeting, but a drop by opportunity for racers to have their cars checked to make sure that they meet specs. We strongly urge our boys to attend this event.  If there are any problems with their cars, then they will have time to correct it prior to the race held on Saturday.

Pinewood Derby- This event is one that is not to be missed. Here you have the chance to race the car that you have created out of a simple block of wood.  Awards are presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each grade level and then 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall for the pack.  Pinewood Derby kits are paid for by the pack, and are given out in December.

Camp BUC TUOCS- Camp BUC TUOCS is a two night campout, held in February, at Camp Shands in Melrose.  Saturday is chock full of activities for the boys as they move from one station to another, while learning archery, cooking, fishing, BB shooting and more.  We enjoy a community dinner with the pack on Saturday night, as the pack provides the main dish and families are asked to bring side dishes to round out the meal.  The cost is $5 per family member for the weekend. The scouts are paid for by the pack.  This is a lot of fun for the scout and his family.

Scouting for Food- Scout units help to fill food banks by distributing bags to homes in a neighborhood, and collecting the filled bags a few days later.  This event takes place in March.  Each den is assigned a different neighborhood. In past years Alachua District Packs and Troops collected as much 4.5 tons of food in 1 day, with our pack collecting more than 2,100 pounds.

Blue and Gold Banquet- Our Blue and Gold Banquet, takes the place of our February Pack meeting.  It celebrates the Birthday of Scouting as well as the honoring of our 2nd year Webelos as they cross over into Boy Scouts. This is an event for all members.  Dinner is served pot luck style.

Pack Graduation- Our Graduation Ceremony takes the place of our May pack meeting.  At this ceremony the boys cross over the bridge and on to their next rank.
