TO: All MFOA Executive Board Members
SUBJECT: Minutes of September 11, 2006 meeting
The meeting was called to order by the President, Bud Holt, at 8:20 PM. The meeting was held following the scheduled football clinic at North Marion High School.
Attending: Bud Holt, Al Summers, Mark Riedy, Jeff Pole, Wade Clayton, Dick VanAuker, David Jones, Carl Dill, Ted Bedford, Paul Gery, Jeff D’Amelio, Bob Leahy, Bill Bowie, and Ralph Messer.
Not Attending: Terry Lee, Saul Speights, David Graham, and Richard Sullivan.
The board discussed a letter from Larry Crenshaw regarding meeting attendance because he felt that it might affect his selection on a playoff crew. It was pointed out that Larry has maximum points (100) and that he would not be affected.
Discussed a request from David Graham regarding some baseball/softball members that had not been reimbursed for complying with the Jessica Lunsford Act. It was pointed out that submission by officials was late and that was the reason for the non-payment. However, a check with the FHSAA will be made.
Discussed Bart Henkle being booked as a Referee for some games, but has not paid MFOA booking fees. Wade stated that he was using Bart out of necessity. Bart will be removed from all bookings until fees are paid.
It was noted that Robert Weems has not paid MFOA dues and fees. Robert will be removed from all bookings until all fees are paid.
Discussed officials who are suspended by the FHSAA and the possibility of them being booked before the suspension is lifted. These officials will be removed from the booking until the fine is paid or the suspension is otherwise lifted by the FHSAA.
Discussed an incident where an assigned official did not report to the game site and the game fee for that official and the travel monies was split between the other officials. The official in question was not reported to the board for his failure to report to the game site. It was learned that the Referee for that game was Bart Henkle. Motion by Dick VanAuker that Henkle be removed from all bookings. Second by Paul Gery. The motion failed. The Treasurer was directed to reimburse the host school for those fees. The matter was then referred to the Inspector, Tinker Bowen, for investigation.
Discussed a letter that was received by David Jones, from Reid Sergent, regarding the clock operator, Bill Stinson, at a recent game. Stinson sounded the clock horn for a water break at the six-minute mark of a quarter. Stinson told Sergent that he (Stinson) decided when the water break was to be taken. The letter also stated that Stinson would not stop the running clock after a score. The matter was referred to the Inspector.
Discussed the number of officials being booked for JV/9th grade games. Ted Bedford stated that he was under the impression that 5 officials and a clock operator would be booked for all games unless the host school wanted to provide their own clock operator. However, it was not put in the contract for the 2006 season and no change can be made at this time.
Discussed the pending FHSAA/MFOA basketball clinic, which is scheduled to be held on November 4, 2006. Ted recommended that we not conduct one at this time if we can get it approved by the FHSAA and possibly hold it after the regular season and state playoffs are over. Bud said that he would discuss it with the FHSAA on 9/12/2006.
There being no further business to come before the board, the meeting was adjourned.
