SUBJECT:                Executive Board Meeting of November 9, 2008


The monthly meeting, which was held at the Ocala Star Banner in Ocala, was called to order at 5:05 PM by the President, Bud Holt.


Attending: Board members attending were Bud Holt, Al Summers, Ralph Messer, Jeff Pole, Paul Gery, Wade Clayton, Ted Bedford, Carlton Dill, Dan Cannon, Saul Speights, Bob Leahy, and James Law.


Not Attending: Richard Sullivan, Reid Sergent, Jeff D’Amelio, and Terry Lee


Old Business:


The minutes of the special meeting of 10/20/08 was read to the board. A Motion was made by Ralph Messer to accept the reading of the minutes. Second by Carl Dill. The motion passed.


The board discussed a complaint regarding an incident that occurred at East Ridge High school during their JV game with Eustis.


New Business:


Dan Cannon made a motion to grant credit to Robert Bennett Wade Clayton for their assistance at the all day basketball clinic and the Rookie Sensation held at Vanguard High School. Second by Ted Bedford. The motion passed.


The Vice President’s Report:


Al advised that the number 1 football crew was going to work a Tie Breaker on 11/10. He discussed briefly any problems that are or could occur regarding basketball assignments.


The Treasurer’s Report:


Jeff reported that all schools are paid and up-to-date. He advised that Forrest High School may start paying the association rather than at the game site. Jeff also noted that he had ordered books for football 7-man crew mechanics.



The Secretary’s Report:


Ralph Messer discussed with the board the possibility of posting the addresses of each member on the Arbiter rather than a comprehensive listed that has to be taken to the printer. It was the consensus of the board that the address list can be emailed to each member for each sport.


The Secretary recommended to the board that the Annual Business Meeting be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 and the Awards banquet be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009. The business meeting will be held at North Marion High School beginning at 9:00 AM. The time and location for the banquet will be announced at a later date.


Ralph made a motion that the December 2008 board meeting be cancelled, unless emergency type business arises.

Second by Carl Dill. The motion passed.


Softball Director’s Report:


James Law reported the he is working with the members schools regarding the scheduling of scrimmages for the softball all-day clinic. There have been some changes, but basically everything is a go.


Baseball Director’s


Paul Gery advised that he is finalizing meeting dates for the baseball membership and when finished a copy will be furnished to the web master for posting. Paul also recommended that the January and February meetings be held at the Sheriff’s District Station on SR 200 since baseball and softball meet on those dates and the Directors and Booking Commissioner for baseball and softball would be able to attend. The board agreed with this idea.

   

Football Director’s Report:


The football directors advised that 7 man mechanics would be covered at the final football clinic on 11/10.


Basketball Directors’ Report:


Dan Cannon advised that he has developed an evaluation form that will be sent to the coaches at each school to have them evaluate basketball officials. He also advised that a sufficient number of clinics have been held for the training of new officials.


Saul Speights advised that Tim Wiggins had injured both knees during a football game and would not be able to call basketball this year. Saul requested that Tim’s basketball fees be returned to him. The board agreed.

 

Other New Business:


Chairmen of the various Committees were advised to update their committees if they change from sport to sport and forward to the Secretary and Web Master.
