SUBJECT: Executive Board Meeting of March 8, 2009
The monthly meeting, which was held at the Ocala Star Banner in Ocala, was called to order at 5:15 PM by the Vice President, Al Summers.
Attending: Board members attending were Al Summers, Ralph Messer, Jeff Pole, Wade Clayton, Carlton Dill, Saul Speights, Bob Leahy, James Law, Reid Sergent, and Jeff D’Amelio.

Not Attending: Bud Holt, Paul Gery, Ted Bedford, Dan Cannon, Richard Sullivan, and Terry Lee.
Old Business:
The minutes of the February, 2009 meeting was read by the secretary. A Motion was made by Ralph Messer and seconded by Jeff Pole to accept the minutes as posted. The motion passed.
Bob Leahy reported that only one of the who were fined in February has paid the fines imposed and has not appealed the action to the board as set forth in the MFOA Constitution. A Motion was made by Reid Sergent and seconded by Saul Speights that these members be suspended immediately and those suspensions will continue until all fines are paid. The motion passed.
Jeff Pole discussed the money that was collected at the basketball “Tip-Off: clinic to assist new officials in complying with the Jessica Lunsford Act. A Motion was made by Ralph Messer and seconded by Jeff Pole that these monies be deposited and kept in a fund to assist future new officials. The motion passed.
Jeff D’Amelio presented to the board his research into the charging of a flat rate travel fee for schools contracted with the MFOA. No action was taken and item was tabled until the April meeting.
New Business:
Bob Leahy discussed the FHSAA recommendation that the number of JV and varsity games be reduced in all sports except varsity football. No action was taken until these recommendations become official.
Jeff Pole advised the final basketball billings have been mailed to the schools. He anticipates no problems.
Jeff also advised that the check for one official’s MFOA dues and bookings booking fees has been returned “Insufficient Funds.” This official will be suspended until the check has been taken care of and additional fees resulting from this action paid.
Reid Sergent stated that the Blakely family from Crystal River lost their son in the recent boating incident. This incident involved NFL players and their friends, one of which was the Blakely’s son. The Blakely’s are responsible for the Crystal River chain crews for football and have served Crystal River High School and the MFOA well. Reid had a card that all Board members signed. He was instructed to purchase a potted plant and send it to the family.
Al Summers discussed some concerns the Assignments Committee members have regarding the timelines of receiving baseball and softball bookings for their review.

There being no further action by the board, a motion to adjourn prevailed.
