"My Grandfather" by George E. Rhoderick (1958)
"A short time after their marriage, they homesteaded a large track of land about a mile north of the Ellingsworth home. (Smith Twp.) They built a large log house, with a big fireplace which seved both for heat and to cook on. The nearest town was Vincennes which was about 45 miles away: however, about six years after their mariage, in 1836, a town was started about 6 miles away which was called Point Commerce."
