The Bicycle Club for Women - Coordinator: Joy
All bike riders welcome from first timers to experienced, road or off road riders, and regardless of whether you have a mountain, road or hybrid. We have a ride for YOU! The forming of this club was to bring security and fun in numbers, when you ride. Scheduled rides are posted here for the 1st and 3rd Saturdays/Sundays of each month. With occasional spontaneous rides through out the month. Plus, club riders may extend an invitation to other bikers to buddy up on impromptu excursions. The first ride of the month is a long road trip and the 3rd Saturday's run is a trail ride that is inviting to skaters, walkers, runners, and bird watchers, as well as bikers. This is a road trip excursion and all participants will meet as a specified location to get directions and carpool to the trail.
The EASY DOES IT GROUPpremiered in February and ride the 1st and 3rd SUNDAYS. This group is for those who are just starting out or for those who like an easier pace. These rides are usually 5-10 miles in length and participants have the option of going to lunch after the ride.
The ROAD RANGERS
are the intermediate group that ride about 25-30 miles.
The DIRT CREW
ride in the dirt! So off road riders this is the group for you.
The BUST A GUT GROUP ~ First came the intermediate group, then the easy group, now there is the Extreme Group! Starting April 11th, 2003, this group will ride each Friday - 5:15pm – at the Sid Martin Biotechnology Development Institute, and will run through September 19, 2003. This weekly ride is for experienced riders and for those willing to go to the edge of their pain threshold to go fast. This ride will be an out and back of about 15 miles, and will include some of the biggest hills in Alachua county. Riders should be able to change a flat and handle any other mechanical problems on their own. This ride will be at the pace of the fastest rider, which will be 16 miles per hour or faster. All riders are welcome, but they should be willing to ride alone if they cannot maintain the pace of the fastest rider.
This ride is dictated by daylight, which will make it essential that we are on the road by 5:30pm and will be a great way to improve your speed and hill climbing. As well as a great way to let all those competitive urges out!
*Note: Each woman will need to bring all equipment, food & fluids necessary.
**As this is still in the developmental stages of The Bicycle Club for Women there are no membership fees at this time. However, we do ask for contributions to help offset the costs for making copies, etc. Also, each rider will be asked to sign a “release of responsibility for any injuries or loss” for each ride.**
