The following is a detailed description of the ballots cast in the Fall 1995 SG election that contained write-in comments. We believe that they reflect the attitude and opinions of the Student Body -- and clearly show the lack of consent of the students of this University to the Student Government.

A note must be made, however, about the number of ballots presented here. There are several hundred -- but, the total vote count was last made "official" by SG at 3,894. The problem is that there are on 2,484 ballots on which the person cast a vote for even one Focus candidate. That means that there are at least 1,410 votes against the Focus party. What we do know is that all of these votes are not properly accounted for -- and that the following ballots can only be a part of the total record.

I have attempted to describe the ballots in as great a detail as possible. Some persons wrote detailed statements, some of the copies that we have cut of portions of the statements, and some people drew pictures. Descriptions of what appears on the ballot will sometimes be necessary -- they will be contained within brackets such as { this describes the ballot }. Spelling errors are not corrected and as much of the look of the writing is attempted to be maintained (such as capitalization). These are not the views of the Independent Student Coalition or the Committee For Student Sovereignty. They are the views of the individual students who cast the ballots. We believe nothing can speak louder than that.

To understand what is presented below, there were several polling locations available (SW Rec Center, Housing Areas, Law School, Med School, Reitz Union, Turlington Ground Floor and Turlington 1st Floor). There were 5 off-campus districts (A - 32601, 32609, 32610; B - 32603, 32604, 32605, 32606; C - 32607; D - 32608; and E - All others not listed) and 3 on-campus districts (West; East; and Family Housing).

District A has 8 seats available. No Independents were on the ballot and 8 Focus candidates. District B has 6 seats available. 1 Independent was on the ballot and 6 Focus candidates. District C has 6 seats available. No Independents were on the ballot and 6 Focus candidates. District D has 10 seats available. 2 Independents were on the ballot and 10 Focus candidates. District E has 2 seats available. No Independents were on the ballot and 2 Focus candidates. West living area has 3 seats available. 5 Independents were on the ballot and 3 Focus candidates. East living area has 4 seats available. 1 Independent was on the ballot and 4 Focus candidates. Family Housing has 1 seat available. 1 Independent was on the ballot and 1 Focus candidate.

Each voter was allowed to cast as many votes up to the total number of seats available in the district. The proper method was to connnect two points with a pen making an arrow. The blank ballot looked as follows [ <= == ] a vote for a candidate looked as follows [ <====== ]. Also on the ballot was a "Proposal" for a revision to the Honor Code. The full text of that proposal was on the ballot. Each ballot had a unique ballot number at the top.
