Well, since there has been some discussion on SG and its illegitimacy, I figured it would be good to bring a few people further up to date on the nonsense that goes on. It is beyond a doubt that the majority (overwhelming) of SG is representative of only a small, very small, minority on campus. IT is also a fairly accurate statement to say that the majority -- overwhelming -- of the campus does not like SG. The origin of the minority having such an overwhelming majority, however, is not due to the lack of voter turnout by those who oppose SG though. Although it is certain that if they turned out in a high enough number -- they would wipe away the idiots that currently rule. The truth of the matter is that the electoral laws which are used, unconstitutionally, deny equality of representation for all students -- that is a FACT. Now, seeing how the majority is represented by only a small minority -- and that the majority (FOCUS -- but more accurately Florida Blue Key -- for the name of the party changes, but those in charge does not) votes in block, without considering the merits or absence of merits of bills -- if it is brought by them -- by Kevin Mayeux - or one of their senators -- its a good bill and passes, regardless of illegalities or irresponsibilities. If it is not brought by them, but instead by a member of the "minority" it fails -- regardless of merit or responsibility. So, you would think that in such a system -- they would simply wait until the minority of the senate spoke out against their bills and then vote them in -- regardless of the merits... Not quite -- yes this happens -- but they dont even want to hear the debate --- motions for format of debate have tried to make 30 second debates! Thats not a lie. Its true. Now, they want to pretty much end all debate before it is ever given -- simply bring the bills and they will pass or fail them - depending on who authors them -- they dont want to know whats in them -- just who authored them. Instead they want to pay more attention to the important things -- for example, the IRO committee will be having Secret Buddies in Senate. Senators will be assigned a secret buddy, and they are to leave little notes for them, and candy and gifts! How sweet and cuddly, dont you think. Yes, these are the people spending your 6.5 million dollars -- Yes, these are the people that sit on committees that determine the curriculum of your college, the future development of campus, the cost of your tuition, the quality of the infirmary and health care... But instead of wanting to debate serious issues -- they want to play in (S)igma (G)amma Sorority. SG is a social event to them -- not a serious mechanism to bring the students' voice to the administration, the faculty, the city and county, the state and the nation - and the world -- NO -- it is a plaything -- and you foot the bill. People, its time for you to get outraged -- its time to bring this shit to an end. SG had put their e-mail addresses on their home page -- but all they got were messages saying that they sucked and that people didnt like them and criticizing the job they do. So they took the links off. Why, because this they claimed was not productive -- and because this was not REAL e-mail -- just "hate" mail. So, send them more -- because they really dont like it. Send mail to kmayeux@sg.ufl.edu - Kevin Mayeux, and tell him what you think. Send to bvoyik@sg.ufl.edu - Beth Voyik, and tell her what you think (they are president and vice president). Send mail to senatepres@sg.ufl.edu, Joe Stadlin, Senate president, and tell him what you think about Senate. Send mail to knanni@sg.ufl.edu -- Ken Nanni -- really no position -- except he is the Pi Tau Group Leader -- the person pretty much calling the shots within Florida Blue Key's political machine -- yes, they give him e-mail -- we pointed this out to them - so they made him head of SG HEalth Insurance -- anyone out there have the policy -- its not very good, but I guess if you knew of a company that would help FUND your campaigns you might hire them too -- maybe thats why SG has this company providing you with health insurance and not another (just a thought, hmm, I wonder if its true?) Its up to you -- dont simply advocate apathy -- that gives them exactly what they want -- BRING THEM DOWN. ______________________________________________________________________________ Charlie Grapski | 1125 S.W. 4th Ave. B1 University of Florida | Gainesville, Fl. 32601 cgrapski@grove.ufl.edu | (904) 335-4439 Take a look at my WEB SITE: http://grove.ufl.edu/~cgrapski ** Resources on Democracy, Proportional Representation, Government, Law, and more - take a look ** ______________________________________________________________________________
