April 2005

Friday, April 15th: Rock show at the CMC, including bands Missing Shadow and Third Definition. Doors open at 8pm. Show starts at 9pm.
Saturday, April 16th: Music benefit for the CMC. Bands include Naked Love, I'm Not Down, The Beat Buttons, and Team Mascot. CMC's doors open at 6:30pm.
Tuesday, April 19th: Weather Underground, documentary showing at the CMC starts at 8pm. Weather Underground was the militant anti-war group that resisted the Vietnam War and racism through violent, direct action in the U.S.
Tuesday, April 26th: Harold and Maude, film showing at the CMC starts at 8pm. Enjoy this quirky cult classic about love, death, and lasting friendship on the big screen.
Friday, April 29th: SPRING BOARD FUNDRAISER (see article at left).
Monday, April 2nd: Weapons of Mass Deception, showing at the Hippodrome at 7pm and 9pm. This new documentary by Danny Schechter examines the biased media coverage of the war in Iraq, and the suspicion by some non-corporate journalists that the U.S. targeted un-embedded reporters for challenging the dominant view provided by the American military. ONE NIGHT ONLY! Tickets are $3 to $10, sliding scale.
Tuesday, April 3rd: Manufacturing Consent, showing at the CMC at 8pm. Noam Chomsky documentary about biases of mainstream media.
NEW! Every Thursday: Radical Reading Group, 7:00pm. Starting with a discussion of Hegel and progressing to Foucault, Sartre, Nietszche and all the rest. Informal discussion, with readings assigned for the upcoming week.

The People's Lounge Wish List--the CMC's newest addition, the People's Lounge, is a designated reading and study area, suited for intellectual stimulation, and serving excellent Fair Trade coffee. But, we still need some stuff: Donations are greatly appreciated: Small corner table · Potted plants · Industrial Vacuum · Staple gun.

The Civic Media Center is a non-profit reading room and library of the independent press. We have thousands of books, magazines, videos and audio tapes available for checkout with membership. Hours are 2-8pm Mon-Thurs, and 2-6pm Fri-Sat. Come and check us out! Annual memberships are $10 to $50, sliding scale.
