The Civic Media Center & Hippodrome documentary film series kicked off in February with the Trials of Henry Kissinger (to three packed showings) and exploded in popularity with the March offering of "Bowling for Columbine" (which was so well-attended the Hipp held it over for 4 weeks--and that was before it won an Oscar).

Next in the series is "Power and Terror: Noam Chomsky in Our Times," which may prove equally crowded because unlike Bowling for Columbine, this is a Gainesville premiere. Filmed in the spring of 2002, it records America's favorite dissident, Linguistics professor Noam Chomsky, as he dissects U.S. foreign policy, terrorism and war.

Chomsky himself is scheduled to speak in Gainesville this fall, on October 21, for the Civic Media Center's 10th anniversary. He spoke here when it was founded. But for now you'll just have to see the film. Tickets will be available at 6 p.m. in the Hippodrome lobby. Showings are 7 and 9 p.m. Requested donation is $5-10 sliding scale.
