Food not Bombs chapter restarting in Gainesville
January/February 2003

Food Not Bombs has over 175 autonomous chapters sharing vegetarian food with hungrey people and protesting war and poverty throughout the Americas, Europe and Australia. The first group was formed in Cambridge, Mass. in 1980 by anti-nuclear activists. Each group recovers food that wold otherwise be thrown out and makes fresh hot vegetarian meals that are served in city parks to anyone without restriction. The groups also serve free vegetarian meals at protests and other events. The San Francisco chapter has been arrested over 1,000 times in an effort to silence its protest against the Mayor's anti-homeless policies.

Gainesville has off and on had a chapter, and one is being reorganized now. As the organizing flier says, "It's COLD. People are HUNGRY. And our country is about to go to war, AGAIN! My point is, this is the perfect time to re-organize a Gainesville chapter of Food Not Bombs."
