Monday, Nov 18th: Outriders, video co-sponsored by the Alachua County Labor Party. Take a ride with the Kensington Welfare Rights Union as they travel around the United States documenting economic human rights violations to present to the UN. 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov 19th: Town Meeting: What's the News? Which Media Do You Trust? Whether for the elections, the economy, or the buildup to war, we all use some form of media to inform ourselves about the events in our world. Come to share and hear about the media you use or don't use and why. Introductory remarks by Dr. Michael Leslie, UF professor of Journalism. Thelma Boltin Center: 516 NE 2nd Ave. 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Nov 21st: Youth Program Planning Meeting, 7:30 p.m. Maude's Cafe.

Friday, Nov 22nd: Terra e Teto, the Movement for Land and Roof in Brazil and Beyond, is the collaboration of two activists, one an artist from Philadelphia, the other an organizer from Sao Paulo, touring the Eastern Coastal U.S. At NE First Street Music Hall. 619 NE 1st Street. $3-5 sliding scale (no one will be turned away due to lack of funds). 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, Nov 22nd: Radical Parenting Meeting. 12:00 noon

Wednesday, Nov 27th: Volunteer Meeting cancelled. CMC will close early for Thanksgiving Holidays.

Thursday, Nov 28th to Sunday, Dec 1st: CMC Closed for Thanksgiving Holidays.

Monday, Dec 2nd: Sheila Bishop's Holiday Special. Join local artists as they interpret, re-invent, subvert and/or generally mess with any or all of the winter holidays and their songs, rituals and consumerist mantras. A crookedletter cabaret to benefit the CMC. Commongrounds Coffeehouse, 919 W. University Ave. $5-10 sliding scale. Doors open: 8:00 p.m. Peformance begins: 9:00 p.m. sharp.

Saturday, Dec 7th: CMC Budget Meeting. 12 noon. CMC closed to the public.

Tuesday, Dec 10th: CMC Board Meeting. 5:00 p.m.

Thursday, December 12th: Counterpoise Pizza Party. Come learn about a local publication dedicated to getting alternative and independent into the collections of public libraries. Great chance to schmooze with people interested in independent media and lovers of libraries. 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec 18th: Vets for Peace Winter Solstice Concert. This is not technically a CMC event, but we will be there and think you should too. 302 NE 6th Ave. (Plenty of Parking). Start time somewhere around 7:30 p.m.

Monday, Dec 23rd through Saturday, Jan 4th: CMC will be operating on reduced hours. 3-6 p.m. May close for additional days depending on staffing and member use of the space.

Dec 24th, Dec. 25, Jan. 1: CMC Closed.

Second and fourth Mondays of the month: Alachua County Green Party meets at the CMC, 6:00 p.m.

Every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m: Meeting for CMC Volunteers.

Every Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Socrates Cafe: open philosophy discussion. Occasionally moved for other events.

Every Thursday at 9:00 p.m.: The Poetry Jam, Gainesville's longest running "open mic" night.

The Civic Media Center is a non-profit reading room of the independent press. We have thousands of books, magazines, videos and audio tapes. Open Monday-Saturday 12-7:30 p.m..
