Campaign finance reform advisory board forum July 18

The Alachua County Campaign Finance Reform Advisory Board will hold a public forum at 6 p.m. July 18 in the Jack Durrance Auditorium of the County Administration Building, 12 S.E. First St. in Gainesville.

"We're completing our recommendations, and we want to hear the public's suggestions about them," said Louis Kalivoda, chair of the advisory board.

The board is seeking comments on the following topics:

Candidate reporting requirements
Local political party/political action committee reporting requirements
Reduction in the mandatory contribution cap
Public disclosure of campaign finances
Voluntary public campaign support program
Voluntary compliance with locally set campaign finance standards

The County Commission created the advisory board in response to a nonbinding referendum in March 2001 in which 68 percent of voters indicated that they desired local home rule over the finances of candidates seeking local Alachua County charter offices.
