World Bank and International Monetary Fund protesters locked themselves together in one of a ring of blockades around the Washington D.C. headquarters of these financial institutions, to protest their first day of spring meetings April 16. Members of the "Florida and Friends" lock down, at Pennsylvania and 17th Ave., held the intersection from the early morning to mid-afternoon. Around 60 people from Gainesville attended the protests.


About 1,300 people were arrested for protesting the IMF/World Bank meetings in DC April 16 & 17th. Most, like this person, were arrested simply for attending rallies, blockades & marches for which no 'permit' had been issued.
