United Nations Day
October 1999

United Nations Day will be observed on Thursday, October 14 with a program at the Gainesville Woman's Club (2809 West University Ave.). Being commemorated by the U.N. this year is the "International Year of the Older Person: Towards a Society for All Ages," and that will be the theme of the local program as well, which runs from 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Lunch is available for $10, but it is optional.

The morning panel will address "Aspects of Aging" and will be moderated by Ray Jones. Panel members will be Charles Wood, Mary Anne Hilker and Terry Mills. The luncheon speaker will be Otto Von Mering, who will address aging in North America and Europe.

The event is sponsored by the U.N. Association of the U.S.A. Gainesville Chapter, Altrusa International and the Gainesville Woman's Club, with numerous other organizations co-sponsoring. Luncheon reservations from Nancy Sever at 375-8169.

Early risers may wish to attend the annual U.N. flag raising ceremony at Gainesville's City Hall, 7 a.m. on the morning of the 14th.
