North Florida Carpenters local gets national recognition
April 1999

Organizing is what got Carpenters Local 75 into the national publication of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America--there they are on the front page of the magazine in full color with the familiar "All Carpetners Welcome" sign that's out front of the Carpenters Hall on 53rd Ave.

"With no contractor base, but a fired up membership and a feisty B.A. [business agent], a small Florida local is rebuilding, one member at a time," the tagline says. The seven page spread tells the story of Local 75, interviewing local president Bill Jones, newly signed-up members and of course the "feisty B.A." Elsie Allen, who is also North Central Florida's AFL-CIO Central Labor Council president.

Pick up a copy of the magazine at the Carpenters Hall, 1910 NW 53rd Ave., or come by the Civic Media Center, 1021 W. Univ. Ave. Carpenters who are not yet in the union can join up, just call (352) 376-3121.
