Black History Month speakers announced

Black scholar Cornel West and attorney Johnnie Cochran are both scheduled to speak in February at UF as part of Black History Month.

West, a scholar and author who wrote Race Matters (1993) among other works will speak on Febraury 16 in the Shands Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Cochran will speak at the University Auditorium at 7 p.m. on February 7th. He is considered a leading authority on criminal injustice, working on the cases of Reginald Denny, the Oklahoma City case, the attack on Abner Louima, and the case of the New Jersey Turnpike shooting where 3 Black Liberation Army members were shot and captured, including Assata Shakur. Among notable achievements he obtained the highest jury award in a police misconduct case in the history of Los Angeles. For more info call: 392-1665, ex. 459.
