The AFL-CIO is convening a statewide rally called "Many Voices, One Movement" in Tallahassee on Tuesday, March 17 (Election Day in Gainesville). It is cosponsored by the National Organization for Women and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the rally will call for the legislature to address issues critical to working women and men in Florida, such as livable wages, immigrant rights, affirmative action, excellence in education, accessible child care, outsourcing and privatization, and various healthcare issues, the rally will run from 1 lam to 2pm. The local Central Labor Council has committed itself to a busload--call 372-6888 and reserve your spot. The bus leaves from the Carpenter Hall at 1910 NW 53rd Avenue at 8:30am and the first 40 people get to go. Any others are encouraged to form carpools.

In defense of 97X--Nearly every listener who's been paying attention to local radio knows by now that the mega-company that owns WKTK has bought the best damn radio source for new music in Gainesville, WRRX.

Shortly after the sale of 97X was announced, a petition drive was launched to save the format of 97X's live DJs. Signatures are being collected at many of the live music clubs as well as at sympathetic businesses. The great cultural resource 97X represents, with its intelligent free-form format which incorporates the many fine acts coming to town or actually living right here in town needs to be fought for and preserved.

There will be a 97X appreciation night on Saturday, March 21 and many music venues are dedicating that night to 97X with a postcard campaign at each location. Many thanks go to Angie of the Rails for her leadership in this endeavor. The music played by 97X keeps me going. Let's work to keep it going too.
