At left: Litira Kokkas joined over thirty others in a Pure Food Rally outside the Doyle Connor Agriculture Building September 12th. Her sign refers to Monsanto Chemical Company, which produces Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH), which is a genetically engineered hormone which causes cows to produce more milk, but also causes increased rates of mastitis (udder infection) which causes blood and pus in milk. The protest targeted rGBH and other factory farming practices which produce diseased and stressed animals which are then regularly dosed with antibiotics, which are then passed on to the humans who eat the meat, eggs and dairy products. People picketed and rallied all over the country, coordinated by the Pure Food Campaign, a national coalition of food safety advocates.
